Want to adjust the brightness or resolution? Or maybe you’re burning the midnight oil and need to adjust the light for nighttime settings. You can easily adjust these and use multiple displays on your Surface Laptop for whatever project you’re on. Adjust brightness and color You can adjust the screen brightness either through the Settings app or from the taskbar Notification area. Please follow the steps given below:
  1. Select Start , select Settings , then click System. A screen featuring display, power and notifications will be displayed.

  1. On the right side, use the slider to adjust or check the box to turn the automatic adjustment on or off.

  1. Alternatively, you can adjust the brightness from the Action Center in the system tray by clicking or tapping brightness tiles on the taskbar. You can also use your keyboard keys to adjust brightness.

Turn Night Light On or Off You can adjust the night light either through the Settings app or from the taskbar Notification area. Please follow the steps given below:
  1. Select Start , select Settings , then click System. A screen featuring display, power and notifications will be displayed.

  1. Scroll to “Night light” and toggle on or off. To adjust further, click Night light settings then adjust as needed or schedule a time for the Night light to automatically turn on and off.

  1. Alternatively, you can use the Action Center in the system tray to adjust the Night light. Go to system tray, click on Notifications, then click on the Night light tile to adjust accordingly.

Adjust scale and layout You can adjust the scale and layout through the Settings app. Please follow the steps given below:
  1. Select Start , select Settings , then click System. A screen featuring display, power and notifications will be displayed.

  1. On the right side, use drop down menus to change or customize your preferences for size, resolution, and orientation.

Connect or add multiple displays You can connect or add multiple displays either through the Settings app or from the taskbar Notification area. Please follow the steps given below:
  1. Select Start , select Settings , then click System. A screen featuring display, power and notifications will be displayed.

  1. On the right side, scroll down to the “Multiple Display” section. Connect older displays manually first, then click “Detect” for Windows 10 to detect them. If connecting to wireless displays, click “Detect.”

  1. Alternatively, you can go to the Action Center in the system tray. Click on Notifications, then click on All Settings and repeat steps 1-2.

Notifications and Quick Actions

You work hard, so let Windows 10 work hard for you with easy and nearly instant access to quick actions. These touch-tiles found at the bottom right of the taskbar in your notifications center, can be activated with the tap of your finger, click of a mouse, or the soft and precise point of the Surface Pen. Access popular system settings like Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, tablet or airplane mode. You can even open notes to jot down ideas before you forget them, or turn on quiet hours so you don’t receive notifications during times of the day when you’re ready to wind down. Notifications will populate in the Action Center bar above your quick action tiles. Receive news on system updates and tips on how you can maximize Windows for your lifestyle. The Action Center in Windows 10 is where you’ll find your notifications and quick actions. Access Notifications Quick Actions the way you want to
  1. Select Start , select Settings , then click System or open settings from Start menu or use the keyboard shortcut, + I.

  1. Go to System > Notifications & actions. Press and hold or select the quick actions to rearrange them from the settings window.

  1. Choose and toggle on and off sliders for desired quick actions.
  2. For additional quick actions, click “Add or remove quick actions” and toggle as needed.

Collapse and sort quick actions In the Action Center, actions area is collapsible, so you may want to display all if you’re on a PC or maybe just your top four most used if you’re on smaller display like the Surface Pro or Surface Laptop.
  1. Open the Action Center in the system tray. Click on Notifications, then click Collapse/Expand.

Get Notifications from specific senders
  1. Select Start , select Settings , then click System or open settings from Start menu or use the keyboard shortcut, + I.

  1. Select Notifications & actions. Scroll to “Get notifications from these senders.” Use the slider buttons to turn on/off notifications you’d like to see in your Action Center.

Adjust Power & Sleep Settings

 

Save power so you can play and work longer by adjusting the power and sleep settings.

  1. Start , select Settings , then click System or open settings from start menu or use the keyboard shortcut, Windows key + I.

  1. Select Power & Sleep in the left pane and use drop down menus to adjust the screen for power use when it’s on and when you’d like it so sleep.

Adjust Battery Settings

  1. Start , select Settings , then click System or open settings from start menu or use the keyboard shortcut, Windows key + I.

  1. Select Battery in the left window pane and use drop down menus to adjust the screen for battery use when it’s on and when you’d like it so sleep.
